A Message From Our CEO
In 2019, the Peninsula Metropolitan YMCA became the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas. The new name is an outward sign of the change in our internal strategy and more accurately reflects our footprint and the uniqueness of each YMCA and the communities they serve. This change was driven by the adoption of our long-range strategic plan, Focus on Our Future.
In this plan, we have committed to:

– Strengthen Our Brand
– Build Our Capacity and Expand Our Reach
In 2019, we added the YMCA Health & Wellness Center in Hampton, opened the state-of-the-art Monroe Family Aquatic Center in Kilmarnock, and renovated the bathhouse at Camp Kekoka. All of these new additions will improve the member experience.
Through our 17 centers, the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas provided membership and program subsidies to 90,058 families and individuals, totaling $2,631,162. This would not be possible without the support of our donors and volunteers. Thank you!
We are deeply grateful to those who have helped the YMCA accomplish so much good work in 2019. Last year, with our community partners and over 2,500 encouraging volunteers, our Y served over 1,500,000 program participants of all ages, faiths, genders, and cultures. We were able to do this through the 3,000 donors that gave over $1.5M to support our cause.
As we focus on our future, we continue to celebrate our past. Because of you, the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas will continue to strengthen our communities in the areas of Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. We have been serving the Virginia Peninsulas for over 120 years, and we are just getting started.
