About the Y
The YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas strengthens communities. Through our focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, we embrace and nurture the promise that lives in all of us. The Y gives children, families, and individuals the support and resources needed to be healthier, more confident, connected, and secure.
The YMCA is a vital asset to the communities it serves. We work together with communities to provide programs like before- and after-school childcare, preschool, day camps, swimming and swim lessons, family activities, sports for adults and children, art programs, health and exercise, specialty programs for teens and older adults, and many more programs that help make that community an even nicer place to live and raise families. All YMCA programs are developed around the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Everyone Is Welcome
What sets the YMCA apart is that we make membership, programs, services, and facilities available regardless of a family or individual’s ability to pay the standard membership and program fees. If you want to participate at the YMCA and feel you are not financially able to do so, please apply to our Guardian program. We do not want you or your family to be excluded from the benefits that the Y has to offer.
The mission of the Y is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
The YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas strives to be a leading family advocate in the community, inclusive and open to all people, responsive to community needs, committed to building character, wellness, and fellowship through programs which promote moral and ethical values and bring all members of our community together for the common good.
Our Y supports the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility and we are guided by the following principles as we work to strengthen the foundations of community.
Strengthening relationships through intentional interactions.
Being truthful in your words and actions.
Being open and understanding to all.
Taking proactive ownership for safety, resources, and service to others.
Believing in yourself and others.
The Strategic Plan
The YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas identifies and outlines the priorities our organization will strive to achieve over the course of the next three years. Designed by a cross-section of community leaders and staff, it was developed to meet the needs of those we serve and to further enhance the YMCA mission in the community. Our commitment is to continue offering programs that strengthen communities.
